I’ll take you step-by-step through the process of finding and viewing your Google reviews across various platforms, helping you stay informed and engaged with your audience. You'll also learn best practices for managing reviews, responding to feedback, and troubleshooting common issues, so you can harness the power of Google reviews to grow your business.
Step-by-step guide to finding your Google reviews
Whether you're a business owner wanting to monitor customer feedback or a user looking to check reviews you’ve left, Google offers several ways to find and view reviews.
Below are detailed steps for accessing your Google reviews through different platforms.
How to use Google My Business to find Google reviews
Google My Business (GMB) is the most comprehensive tool for business owners to manage their presence on Google, including viewing and managing customer reviews.
Using GMB to find your Google reviews allows you to see all feedback in one place, monitor new reviews, and respond directly to customers. After logging in, you’ll land on the GMB dashboard. This is the control center for managing all aspects of your Google Business Profile, from updating your business info to reviewing analytics.
If you want to navigate to your google reviews, go to the menu with several options on the left-hand side of the dashboard. Click on “Reviews” to open the review management page. Once you’ve accessed the Reviews section, you can see a full list of reviews posted by your customers.
At the top of the Reviews page, you’ll see an overview of your business’s overall rating, including the number of reviews you’ve received and your average star rating. You can sort the reviews by date (from newest to oldest or vice versa), or rating (highest-rated or lowest-rated). Use these filters to prioritize responding to the most recent or most critical reviews.
Here, you can also respond to posted reviews. Make sure to thank the customer for their feedback, whether it’s positive or negative. Keep your tone professional and constructive, particularly for negative reviews.
Pro tip: Always respond to reviews promptly. Engaging with reviews—especially negative ones—shows potential customers that you care about their feedback and are actively managing your business.
Viewing Google reviews via Google Search
For a business owner or customers looking to check Google reviews without logging into the GMB dashboard, Google Search provides a simple, quick way to view reviews. This method is especially useful for people who don’t need to manage reviews but want to check what customers are saying about a business.
To start, you’ll need to perform a simple search for your business. Enter the name of your business exactly as it appears in Google My Business. You might need to add your location or specific keywords to refine the search if your business name is common.
Once you’ve searched for your business, Google will show the search results. Look for the Knowledge Panel on the right side of the screen (on desktop) or near the top of the search results (on mobile). This panel contains detailed information about your business. For example, I searched for OpenWidget to see our Google reviews.
The Knowledge Panel displays key information about your business, including contact details, operating hours, photos, and location on Google Maps. The "Reviews" section shows your average star rating (like ours 5 star reviews) and the number of total reviews (currently, we have 21 reviews on Google).
Once you’ve opened the reviews, you have the option to sort or filter them based on your preferences. If you’re looking for something specific, such as comments about a product or service, you can use the search bar provided at the top of the review page to search for keywords within the reviews. For example, searching for “coffee” will highlight all reviews mentioning coffee, making it easier to find relevant feedback.
How to search Google reviews on Google Maps
Google Maps is another great tool for viewing and interacting with Google reviews. Whether you are a business owner or a customer, Google Maps allows you to search for a business and see its reviews directly within the map interface. This is a useful method if you’re looking for reviews while searching for a location or service in a particular area. You can use either the Google Maps mobile app (for smartphones and tablets) or the Google Maps website (on a desktop or laptop).
To find reviews for a business, you need to locate the business on Google Maps first. In the search bar at the top of the screen (or top of the mobile app), type the name of the business you’re looking for or its address. You can also search by business category (e.g., "coffee shops near me" or "restaurants in downtown New York") if you want to find reviews for local businesses. Read more about how to do Google reviews search by name or keyword.
After searching, Google Maps will display a list of businesses or show pins on the map. Click or tap on the business you’re interested in from the list or directly on the map pin to open the business’s profile. Scroll down the business’s profile until you find the Reviews section. To view all reviews in detail, click or tap on the “See all reviews” link. This will open a full-page view of all customer reviews.
At the top of the reviews page, you’ll see a search bar where you can search for specific keywords in the reviews. This is helpful if you’re looking for reviews that mention a specific aspect of the business, such as “service,” “coffee,” or “cleanliness.”
If you are the business owner and you want to manage reviews through Google Maps, you can respond to them directly within the app or website. To do so, you must be logged into the Google account associated with your Google My Business profile.
How to find Google Play reviews
Google Play reviews are user reviews left for apps, games, movies, books, and other content available on the Google Play Store. If you’re a developer wanting to check reviews for your app or a user looking to view feedback on apps before downloading, Google Play offers several easy ways to access these reviews.
If you're a developer, you need to access your Google Play Console. Here, on the left-hand sidebar, find and click on the “Reviews” tab. This will take you to the page where all reviews left for your app are displayed. Sorting and searching reviews is similar to the steps I covered for GMB.
For users, simply go to the Google Play app or website, use the search bar at the top to search for the app, game, movie, or book you’re interested in. Enter the exact name of the app or content, or browse by category. From the search results, select the app or content you’re looking for and scroll down to the Reviews section to view user feedback.
How to manage your Google Reviews
Managing your Google reviews is essential for maintaining your business's online reputation, building customer trust, and improving your visibility in search results. Actively review and respond to Google reviews to show customers that you care about their experience.
Responding to reviews
Engaging with your customers by responding to reviews, whether positive or negative, is one of the most important aspects of review management.
When customers leave positive feedback, it's a great opportunity to reinforce your relationship with them and show appreciation. Begin your response by thanking the customer for their feedback. To make your reply feel more genuine, personalize your response by referring to something specific the reviewer mentioned. End the response by inviting the customer back or letting them know you’re available if they need anything.
Here's an example you can use:
“Thank you for the kind words, [Customer Name]! We’re so glad you enjoyed [specific product/service]. We look forward to seeing you again soon!”
Responding to negative reviews
Negative reviews are inevitable, but responding professionally can help you mitigate damage and potentially turn dissatisfied customers into loyal ones.
Again, begin by thanking the reviewer for their feedback, even if it’s negative. Offer a sincere apology and acknowledge the specific problem mentioned in the review. If possible, provide a resolution or a way for the customer to contact you directly to resolve the issue. Avoid getting defensive or argumentative. Always maintain a calm and professional tone, even if the review feels unfair.
Here's another example you can try:
“Thank you for sharing your experience with us, [Customer Name]. We’re sorry to hear that you had an issue. We apologize that the [specific issue] didn’t meet your expectations. Please reach out to us at [email/phone number] so we can make this right.”
Reporting fake or inappropriate reviews
Fake or inappropriate reviews can harm your business, but Google offers a process for reporting these types of reviews. A fake or inappropriate review might include spam, offensive language, conflict of interest, or irrelevant content.
Go to your Google My Business profile or Google Maps app and find the review in question. Click the three dots next to the review and select “Flag as inappropriate”. Google will review the flagged content and remove it if it violates their policies.
Note that this process may take time, and not all reports result in removal. It’s important to provide a clear reason for the flagging. Document fake reviews and keep track of the reports you’ve submitted. If necessary, follow up with Google support if the review isn’t removed after a reasonable amount of time.
Show Google reviews on your website
Adding a Google reviews to your website boosts your online credibility, improves customer trust, and encourages new reviews.
How?
By displaying Google reviews directly on your website, you provide social proof that enhances your brand’s credibility. Potential customers can see real feedback from satisfied clients, which builds trust. This helps reassure visitors that choosing your business is the right decision.
Instead of making users search for reviews elsewhere, you showcase them upfront, giving a transparent view of customer satisfaction.
